It is completely incomprehensible to me that anyone who "claims" to be a "christian", can have ANY questions about the Biblical fact that Christ Jesus WAS both GOD & MAN-AT THE SAME TIME!
First-Was Jesus a man?
He was born.
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%202:1-20&version=NIV
He was hungry.
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%204:1-2&version=NIV
He was tired & thirsty.
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%204:1-26&version=NIV
He was sad.
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+11:34-36&version=NIV
Well, seems pretty human to me.
But He was also God.
How do we know this?
Right here:
Jesus claims God's name, as seen here:
John 6:51:("I am) the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever;"
John 8:23: And He said to them, "You are from beneath; (I AM) from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:12: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ("I AM) the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
John 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, (I AM.)"
John 10:9: ("I AM) the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture."
John 10:11: ("I AM) the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.
John 11:25: Jesus said to her,( "I AM) the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
John 14:6: Jesus said to him, ("I AM) the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 15:1:( "I AM) the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
John 8:57-58 (New International Version, ©2010)
57 “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
John 4:24-26 (New International Version, ©2010)
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
Jesus forgives sin:
Matthew 9:1-3 (New International Version)
Matthew 9
1 Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
Matthew 9:6 (New International Version)
6 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”
Luke 7:48-50 (New International Version)
48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
Jesus claims equality with God:
John 10:30 (New International Version)
30 I and the Father are one.”
Sill want to say Jesus isn't God, when here is all the proof RIGHT FROM THE BIBLE, where He says He is!
And for those who say that Jesus never asked to be worshiped-that is irrelevant.
He WAS WORSHIPED, as seen here:
Matthew 2:11
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Matthew 14:33
Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Matthew 28:9
Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.
Matthew 28:17
When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
Luke 2:37
and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.
Luke 24:52
Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
John 9:38
Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
Only GOD is worthy to be worshiped!
Now:
There are many who will say that:
Well, what about all those times that Jesus said he could do nothing , except by the will of the Father.?
In Order to answer this question, we have to look at the Gospels AS A WHOLE narrative.
In every single Gospel, there is NO PLACE that anytime that Jesus did a miracle, that He said-I did this of my OWN power.
No-remember that people saw Christ as simply a man, as seen here:
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+4:21-23&version=NIV
The people didn't see Christ as God-even the disciples, more than once, as seen here:
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+8:25-27&version=NIV
That is what is consistent throughout all 4 Gospels-Jesus showing us by His own example, how WE should approach God.
Jesus had all the power of God, but chose to live as an ordinary man, as seen here:
classic.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%202:1-11&version=NIV
He was both God AND man!
The evidence is right here before your eyes.
