We are continuing on with looking at Psalm 119.
"How can a young man keep his ways pure?
By living according to Your Word.
I seek You with all my heart;
Do not let me stray from Your commands.
I have hidden Your Word in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
Praise be to You, 0 Lord;
Teach me Your decrees.
With my lips, I recount
All the laws that come from Your mouth.
I rejoice in following Your statutes
As one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate on You precepts,
And consider Your ways.
I delight in Your decrees;
I will not neglect Your Word. "
HOW CAN A YOUNG MAN KEEP HIS WAY PURE? BY LIVING ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.
Here is a very good lesson as to how to keep your kids walking upright-by teaching them God's Word-the earlier, the better! I see this verse, & I am reminded of another truth in Scripture-Proverbs 22:6-"Train a child in the way that he should go, & when he is old, he will not turn from it." You can NEVER go wrong with teaching your kids the Bible!
I WILL SEEK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART; DO NOT LET ME STRAY FROM YOUR COMMANDS.
There are two particular verses in Scripture that tell us how not to stray from God's commands. The first is one of the verses that I have committed to memory a long time ago-Matthew 6:33; Seek first
the Kingdom of God & His righteousness, & all these things shall be added unto you. " The other one is Proverbs 3: 5-6- Trust in the Lord with all thy
heart & lean not unto thine own understanding. In ALL thy ways acknowledge Him, & HE will direct thy paths. " When we put our total, unconditional
trust in God's leading, instead or trying to go our own way, (which I have discovered a long time ago, usually ends up in disaster!), He WILL help us
follow His direction in our lives!
I HAVE HIDDEN YOUR WORD IN MY HEART, THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST YOU.
What does it mean to hide God's word in our hearts? It means to
READ IT, STUDY IT, SPEAK IT, & MEDITATE ON IT! This is why it is so important for us to get into God's word EVERYDAY-so that it becomes a part of
us, so that we are inseparable from each other!
PRAISE BE TO YOU, 0 LORD; TEACH ME YOUR DECREES
Here is an absolutely essential ingredient, when we are studying God's word: GIVE HIM THANKS FOR IT! The Bible is THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOK THAT YOU WILL EVER OWN! What better person to ask to help studying it, but the very
Person that caused it to be written in the first place-GOD!
WITH MY UPS, I WILL RECOUNT ALL THE LAWS THAT COME FROM YOUR MOUTH.
This is referring to one thing & one thing alone- WITNESSING! What was the COMMAND of Jesus to ALL HIS FOLLOWERS in Acts 1 :8? "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; & you shall be my WITNESSES in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, & Samaria, & to the ends of the earth. " Whose power gives us the ability to witness? THE HOLY SPIRIT! Whose power do we witness in? Our own? No! THE HOLY SPIRITS POWER! Witnessing involves talking! The good news of Jesus Christ is too important to hold in-& add to the fact, that this is a direct COMMAND FROM OUR LORD!!!!! We cannot ignore it!
I WILL REJOICE IN YOUR STATUTES. AS ONE REJOICES IN GREAT RICHES.
Here is an interesting comparison-the ETERNAL, versus the TEMPORAL! We have ALL heard the saying-You can't take it with You!" We can't take anything physical with us when we die-but if God's word is a part of our very being, THAT WE WILL TAKE WITH US! (Look at verse 11, above!)
I MEDITATE ON YOUR PRECEPTS, & CONSIDER YOUR WAYS.
We looked at what precepts were in yesterday's post-they are regulations of a covenant established by the Lord-in our case the covenant of forgiveness & grace, the NEW Covenant-established by Jesus Christ! To meditate means
to ponder, to think upon, to memorize, to commit to always remembering & thinking about. This is especially vital to more effective witnessing! The
more Scripture we know, the more that the Holy Spirit will be able to use when ARE witnessing!
I WILL DELIGHT IN YOUR DECREES; I WILL NOT NEGLECT YOUR WORD, What can be another word for delight? JOY! Look at John 15: l1-(Jesus Speaking) "I have told you this, so that my joy may be in you, & that your joy may be complete." WOW! Because we are believers, Jesus said that we can have HIS JOY! The Joy that the Father feels when a sinner comes to the family of God! (Luke 15:7- (Jesus Speaking) "I tell you in the same way, there will be more rejoicing in Heaven, over one sinner who repents, than over 99 righteous persons, who do not need to repent." (Also see verse 10!) (I don't think there is enough space for me to list all the other references to JOY in this post! Look in a concordance under the word JOY! Each of these instances are the EXACT same kind of JOY that we, as Believers can know!) And how does this section end-with a command & a prayer! A prayer that we NEVER WILL neglect, & a command that we WILL NEVER NEGLECT GOD'S WORD! Let this be the prayer of every person who calls themselves CHRISTIAN'
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, We glorify Your holy Name for the gift of the living Word-our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ! We praise Your holy Name for Your written word, the Bible! We honor You & You alone with all that we are, for these two resources that we can draw upon, in order to follow Your directions! We praise You for the Gift of Your son, that we may bear Jesus in each one of our heart, by the power of Your Holy Spirit! We praise You that We can bear
Your written word in our hearts as well, by never failing to study it, to meditate on it, & to memorize it, that it may become to as inseparable to us as
an arm, or a leg is! That we would turn to Your Word, as the ONLY guide for knowing what You expect from each one of us, as we walk in Your ways,
Lord Jesus! We obey only Your word, Heavenly Father, for there is no other source that we can use to follow, that will Guide us in the ways that You
want us to go! We thank-you for the Living Word, Your Son, Jesus Christ, who offered Himself as a living sacrifice for our sins, that we would be ABLE
to walk in Your ways! We give You & You alone ALL thanksgiving that we can have a personal relationship with the One who created the ENTIRE
UNIVERSE, & with the One, who still cares about our EVERY concern! We praise You, Heavenly Father! We Praise You, Holy Spirit! & we give all honor &
glory, to the One & ONLY ONE, who made our TRUE JOY in You possible, Our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ! For it is in Jesus name we pray! Amen!"
